You have to go all the way back to 2006, when ABX started to build a significant customer base in SOCAL, specifically San Diego. In 2008 ABX opened a sales office in San Diego with as they say boots on the ground every day to support the clients in SOCAL from Santa Barbara to the border. That customer base grew quickly on the heels of a strong reputation for quality, on-time delivery, customer support and value.
Now several years later we continue to add new customers and retain and grow our business with past customers. One of the things I am most proud of is our diversity in the customers we serve in SOCAL. We build for industries including aviation, ocean products, medical, broadcast, transportation, performance automotive, industrial, consumer and other technologies. Although the products and markets may vary, the need for a strong reliable production partner drives long term relationships.
We appreciate the Del Mar show venue and look forward to it every year. We understand the challenges potential customers have in selecting a good contract manufacturing partner, or perhaps looking for other options to their current manufacturing programs. ABX has further enhanced quality production capabilities with the addition of Zero Ion G3-12 Ionic Contamination (Cleanliness) Tester. With today’s high board densities, and fine-pitch surface-mount devices the requirements for accurate contamination (cleanliness) testing continue to become more critical. Ionic contamination testers are designed for the purpose of determining and monitoring the cleanliness of assemblies. The Zero-Ion G3 ionic contamination tester meets industrial cleanliness specifications including MIL-STD-2000A, MIL-P-28809 and IPC-001 TM-650 2.3.25, and NASA-STD-8739.1B sections 7.2-7.5, through the use of dynamic measurement technology. Zero Ion G3-12 provides quick and precise cleanliness measurements of printed circuit assemblies, bare boards, and other electro-mechanical devices.

ABX has recently added new videos to the ABX website to help perspective customers, engineers, management and quality better understand the manufacturing technologies available at ABX. These brief videos include more information on surface mount technology and associated supporting technologies in areas like selective wave solder, X-Ray inspection, automated optical inspection (AOI) and Ruggedized assembly.

Often recently graduated engineers for example have a very strong understanding of electronics, software and systems, but without having had the opportunity to spend time in a factory they don’t fully understand the assembly, soldering and manufacturing processes. Our video’s are aimed at providing a basic overview of how the PCBA’s are built, inspected, tested and other processes, to help build a foundation of knowledge beyond simply the design. Its a great pre-cursor to a factory tour for a perspective or current client. We hope to continue to expand our technology videos library so along with our Factory Tour Video, it gives our customers the ability to tour ABX at their convenience as well refresh their knowledge on particular areas like SMT.”

ABX adds E by DEK SMT Screen Printer to further increase SMT Throughput and Capabilities. The E by DEK is fully integrated with the ABX SIPLACE SMT lines utilizing the shared E-line monitor, providing operators with more control and a central overview of the entire SMT Line.
The E by DEK screen printers feature a totally modular design and support core cycles times of 7.5 seconds or less, and an accuracy rating of up to 15 µm @ 2 Cmk. In combination with the self-learning ASM ProcessExpert, the E by DEK clears the path to almost total printing process automation, optimization and control. The ASM ProcessExpert sets the printing parameters and automatically optimizes and controls all printing processes.

ABX has added the SIPLACE SX SMT Pick and Place machine to further increase capacity, throughput and support of more complex builds. The SIPLACE SX provides increased flexibility as compared to classic SMT lines where product changeovers require cumbersome reconfigurations and smaller lot sizes can drive up unit costs.
The SIPLACE SX with its interchangeable gantries provides ABX with a scalable alternative to inflexible machines and rigid SMT line configurations. Interchangeable gantries, heads with software controlled placement modes, intelligent X-feeders and other features provide great flexibility to allow ABX to better support product change overs and both small and large production runs. Overall capacity (SMT throughput) will increase by over 20% with the addition of the SIPLACE SX, but more important line flexibility will increase significantly allowing ABX to better support our customers who’s product portfolios also include lower volume runners, as well as NPI production and FastTrack builds. The SIPLACE SX has the capability of placing 01005 components increasing accuracy to 22 microns from the current 135 microns.
