ABX Expands SMT Capability
To continue to support customers more challenging SMT builds with smaller components and higher density PCBA’s, ABX Engineering has upgraded another SMT line with the SIPLACE SX1/SX2
The SIPLACE SX1/SX2 will support components as small as 0201 (metric), with a component placement accuracy of ± 22 μm (3σ) and can utilize uto 120 tape feeder modules.
ABX has 3 SMT lines (two featuring the SIPLACE SX1/SX2) supporting component placements of average up to 245,000 components per hour. The lines feature fully automated in-line stackers, solder paste screeners with laser height application/measurement and reflow ovens.

The growing threat of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has become a global issue that is impacting all of our lives. The management at ABX Engineering would like you to know that we are taking every precaution to minimize its impact on our employees and our ability to support our customers.
ABX Engineering builds products for customers used in instruments that are researching the coronavirus COVID-19 and products used in instruments to detect COVID-19 as well as to help monitor impacted patients. With this consideration ABX continues to be in production to support our customers, many of which are in Medical, Life Science, Military, Defense, Research, Infrastructure and other sectors.
To keep our customers and employees safe and healthy, we are regularly disinfecting and cleaning all surfaces. Where possible our office employees are currently working from home. Additionally, we have implemented travel ban for our employees and at this time are not allowing visitors in our facilities.

ABX adds Koh Young Technology KY8030-3 3D In-Line Solder Paste Inspection Equipment

To further enhance ABX’s SMT capabilities, ABX has added Koh Young Technology KY8030-3 3D In-Line Solder Paste Inspection (SPI) equipment
Typically over 70% of the defects in the SMT process are caused during solder printing. By optimizing the printing process, the SMT line realizes maximum yields in downstream stages of pick & place and reflow and overall product quality as related to component placement and soldering is improved.
The Koh Young Technology KY8030-3 is part of a closed loop with the printing process monitoring production status with real time communications between the solder paste printer and the SPI.
ABX has been able to maintain a 99.7% plus customer pass rate for PCBA’s, with the addition of the Koh Young Technology KY8030-3 ABX will continue to strive to achieve a 100% customer acceptance/pass rate for ABX manufactured PCBA’s!

ABX has successfully upgraded to ISO 13485:2016 Certification

ABX has been ISO 13485 certified since 2011. In 2015 ABX earned AS9100 Aerospace manufacturing certification and successfully completed the new AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certification last year. ABX has completed audits has successfully upgraded to the new ISO 13485:2016 certification.
In addition to ISO 13485:2016, AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certification, ABX is ITAR registered with fully trained workforce to IPC 610 Class II & Class III, J-STD-001 with certified trainers on staff. Production is on-shore with 55,000 square foot of manufacturing facilities in Burlingame, California and sales support office in San Diego CA.

Phil Frierson joins ABX as the Director of Quality

Phil Frierson has joined ABX as the Director of Quality. Phil brings over 30 years’ experience in quality & reliability assurance. Prior to ABX Engineering, Phil was director of Quality at Streamline Circuits, a manufacturer of PCB’s. He was also Director of Quality and EHS for MoSys Inc., a Fabless semiconductor firm for nearly eight years. At Mosys he started up and staffed the quality group for the company and was the leader in their ISO certification process. Phil has held other positions in management such as Director of New Product Introduction, VP of quality and VP Operations for companies in the semiconductor electronics space. Mr. Frierson graduated from University of San Francisco with a degree in Organizational Behavior and a degree from De Anza College with emphasis on Quality Assurance Technology.
ABX is excited to have Phil join the team as his experience will help ABX continue to strive for 100% customer satisfaction and further solidify ABX’s team culture of continual improvement.
